Solvay manufactures, under the trade name of OSSIMAG®, different grades of Magnesium Oxide designed to match customer needs in various applications. Chemical purity, apparent volume, specific surface area, density and free flowing properties are fundamental to determine the performance in every application.
Ossimag Pharmaceuticals grades: Magnesium Oxide is used as antacid, alkaline buffer and laxative in pharmaceutical preparations (tablets, capsules, powders). Mild abrasive and neutraliser of acid secretions in tooth paste. It is also used as an absorbent, opacifyng agent and pH adjuster in cosmetics products or in dentistry for dental cement. Magnesium Oxide is requested as filter aid and clarifying agent in food and beverage processing. It is used for the production of magnesium hydroxide paste.
Ossimag Technical grades: Magnesium Oxide is used as a pigment dispersing aid, rheological modifier, acid neutraliser in paint and flattening agent and translucent filler in inks. It is used in rubber and elastomers as acid acceptor, vulcanizing agent, stabilizer and curing agent. Magnesium Oxide is also used in plastics, adhesives and sealants as thickener and acid acceptor, in the steel industry for the production of magnetic steel sheets and as magnesium source for the manufacture of catalyst compounds.
