Chloroform (Trichloromethane - CHCl3) is a clear, colourless, non flammable, non ozone depleting powerful solvent.
The main applications are :
- as chemical reactant, i.e. in the production of the fluorinated hydrocarbon HCFC-22 used as refrigerant, air conditioning fluid and for the production of fluorinated polymers, like PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene),
- as solvent in chemical reactions or in extraction operations (i.e. antibiotics, hormones, vitamins, etc.)
