Allyl chloride is a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of many chemical products thanks to the structure of its molecule, which has both a highly reactive chlorine atom and a double bond.
It is mainly used in the manufacture of epichlorohydrin. It is also used in the production of allylic ethers, esters, silanes and quaternary ammonium derivatives.
Allyl chloride is a highly volatile, colorless liquid with a pungent odor.
