Oxystrong® 5 is an equilibrium mixture of ~5% peracetic acid 26% hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid and water.
Peracetic acid is an oxidising biocide with very rapid biocidal action at ambient or cold temperatures at relatively low concentrations. It has broad spectrum activity and is effective over a wide range of conditions. The activity of peracetic acid is relatively unaffected by organic contamination compared to some other oxidising biocides. Additionally it is very effective against biofilms and microbial slime, of particular importance in many industrial biocide applications. A final point is that no build-up of resistance to peracetic acid is known despite a long history of use in disinfection applications.
Solvay's Proxitane® and Oxystrong® grades are specially stabilised with a unique formula which results in superior product stability even at elevated temperatures.
One of the key features of peracetic acid products is their environmental safety:
-
hydrogen peroxide decomposes to water and oxygen;
-
peracetic acid decomposes to oxygen, acetic acid and water;
-
acetic acid is readily converted to carbon dioxide by microbial activity.
