Allylic products

Innovative green chemistry technology to serve strong demand for Epichlorohydrin.

Solvay has decided to build a world-class plant in Map Ta Phut (Thailand) for the production of Epichlorohydrin on the basis of the Epicerol® process, its proprietary technology with enhanced environmental performance. Pending relevant regulatory approval, the startup of this plant is foreseen end of 2011, with an annual production capacity of 100kT/year, enabling Solvay to provide a fast response to the rapidly growing demand for Epichlorohydrin in Asia.

Epicerol® is a novel process developed by Solvay, based on the transformation of glycerine, which is a renewable by-product of the biodiesel industry. After a successful start-up in April 2007, this process with greatly enhanced environmental performance is now fully optimized in Tavaux, France, in anindustrial plant fed with glycerine derived from rapeseed oil.

1,2,3-Trichloropropane
Colourless liquid, mainly used as chemical intermediate.
1,3-Dichloropropene
Colourless liquid, mainly used in agriculture and as chemical intermediate.
Allyl chloride
Allyl chloride is mainly used in the manufacture of epichlorohydrin. It is also used in the production of allylic ethers, esters, silanes and quaternary ammonium derivatives.
Di-isoamyl ether
EDIA is a colorless liquid, soluble in alcohol and ether. It is mainly used as an organic solvent.
Epichlorohydrin
A key raw material for a wide range of industries

Epichlorohydrin is a chemical intermediate, mainly dedicated to the manufacturing of epoxy resins used in Paints & coatings, Composites, Adhesives and Electronics. It is also used in non-epoxy applications, such as Pulp & paper chemicals, Water treatment and Healthcare products.

Solvay has developed and patented a new glycerin-based process for the production of epichlorohydrin, called Epicerol®
Glycerol alpha monochlorohydrin
Viscous liquid used as chemical intermediate.
