High technology is more and more complex and needs an increasingly large number of materials differing in nature and properties used in an almost infinite number of combinations. In order to achieve optimum operation, very clean surfaces are quite often needed.

The Solvokane™ solvent series can be used for a wide range of applications. For example, it is used in vapor degreasing or vacuum cleaning machines to treat a wide variety of materials and parts. It can be used as a soil removal agent, removing such contaminants as particles or greases easily, quickly leaving no residues. This is a basic requirement in hard disc drive or PCB (Printed Circuit Boards) cleaning, as well as in optical lens production. Excellent results were also achieved in oil removal. I.e. Solvokane™ also removes a wide range of different types of silicone oils, something that may not be achieved with standard solvents. Solvokane™-S is our drying agent for effective water displacement drying. Solvokane™-S is typically used in combination with Solvokane™.

Solkane® 365mfc as base for solvent applications

The challenge now is to find solvent formulations that meet the needs of any given specific application. Blending of different solvent compounds gives the opportunity to adjust a number of parameters to obtain the desired properties.

Solkane® 365mfc is a perfect “team player”. It is miscible with a wide range of organic solvents, what makes it a suitable co solvent for many applications.

This following list of interesting application areas is incomplete. There are a number of additional applications where Solkane® 365mfc is already used or has suitable properties.

The following must be noted regarding the USA (until March 5, 2013): (1) Solkane® 365mfc cannot be used in the USA, by itself or in a blend, as a blowing agent to foam a plastic based on an isocyanate to form plastic foam compositions; (2) Solkane® 365mfc and blends containing Solkane® 365mfc must not be made, used, offered for sale, or sold in the USA, or imported into the USA, for such blowing uses; and (3) closed cell plastic foam compositions prepared by foaming a plastic material based on isocyanate in the presence of a propellant comprising Solkane® 365mfc and/or a blend containing Solkane® 365mfc, cannot be made, used, offered for sale, or sold, within the USA, or imported into the USA. To do so can result in a claim of patent infringement under U.S. patent no. 5,496,866. Solvay will not sell Solkane® 365mfc or blends containing Solkane® 365mfc to any purchaser intending to use the product accordingly.
