Electricity & Electronics

The high quality of chemicals produced by Solvay, together with the close collaboration between the industry’s and Solvay’s specialists make it possible to achieve significant progress.

Coating Additives

Our organic intermediates can be used for a variety of applications such as electronic conducting materials and photovoltaics as well as coating materials for flat panel displays, touch screens and fingerprint scanners.

Display Industry

Blue pigments are a key component in color liquid crystal display (LCD) screens. Fluorinated gasses are used to etch microcircuits on the back of the screen, which allow the pixels to change color and to give life to images. Solvay also supplies gasses, which are used to clean equipment used in the production of flat panel displays.

Electronic Additives

Our aliphatic fluorinated building blocks can be used for a variety of applications such as electronic conducting materials and photovoltaics as well as coating materials for flat panel displays, touch screens and fingerprint scanners.

High/Medium Volt Circuits

Solvay's sulphur hexafluoride is a non-toxic, inert, insulating and cooling gas of high dielectric strength and thermal stability.
It is particularly suitable for applications in both high-voltage and medium-high voltage power circuit breakers as well as in high-voltage cables, transformers, transducers, particle accelerators, X-ray equipment and UHF transmission systems.

Lithium Ion Batteries

Monofluoroethylene carbonate is applied for the use in batteries and accumulators.

PV Industry

High performance liquids are applied during the production of solar cells to improve their efficiency and their durability. Fluorinated gasses are used to clean equipment used during the production of silicon thin film solar cells.

Semiconductors

High performance liquids and gases for wet and dry plasma etching processes are used by the semiconductor industry for devices manufacturing.
From the long established applications in the etching of printed circuit boards to the more recent application of ultra high purity grades in semiconductor production, hydrogen peroxide is the leading 'wet chemical' used in the semiconductor industry.
